Survey reveals wedding trends for 2016 are all about the quirk

Think you’re being adventurous with your red velvet wedding cake? You’re going to have to try a bit harder than that if you want to impress your guests. How about a pork pie or “naked” wedding cake?

These are just two of the trends spotted by wedding venue Heaton House Farm, who carried out a survey of 1,000 couples due to marry in 2016.

That’s right: some newly-weds will be cutting into pork belly and pastry instead of icing sugar and buttercream (side of pickled onions optional).


Or you could go for the minimalist “naked” wedding cake:

Bite-size treats for guests instead of slices of cake is another popular trend, such as the macaron tier:

When it comes to the bridal party look out for four-legged creatures with wagging tails. Dogs — and, it seems, pugs in particular — could have pride of place at 2016 weddings.
