Teen gives a flower to each girl at his school for Valentine’s Day

It’s not often that a teenage boy can teach grown men a thing or two about treating women, but there are always exceptions.

Seventeen-year-old Utah high school student Hayden Godfrey worked as a McDonald’s cook, a dishwasher at a Mexican restaurant and a bag boy at a grocery store in order to earn the $450 he needed to buy flowers for each female student in his school.

The big-hearted teen started his quest in middle school by sending flowers to a select group of his friends who didn’t receive flowers on Valentine’s Day.

“That broke his heart on Valentine’s Day,” his mom told ABC News of her “sensitive soul” son, adding that “he wanted every girl to feel joy.” So he hatched his plan to give flowers to every girl, but he needed help. Sky View High School Assistant Principal Curt Hanks helped with the logistics, giving Godfrey a list of the students. Then, 20 of his pals helped hand out the 834 carnations on Feb. 11.

“I think that he’s an amazing kid,” Hanks said of Godfrey. “I’m speechless at his actions.”

And his girlfriend of six months isn’t jealous. “I, myself, spent a lot of Valentine’s Days not receiving anything,” Lilyan Sharp told ABC News. “I know how it feels.”

He saved the best gift of all for her: concert tickets to see A Great Big World in Salt Lake City in March. But for now, he’s happy he’s able to make all women at school feel special. “I don’t think anything can compare to seeing every girl in your life holding a flower as they walk through the halls,” the self-professed romantic wrote in a Facebook post.
