Chelsea Clinton’s $5 million wedding details

Details about Chelsea Clinton‘s wedding are all hush-hush on the down-low. In-the-know wedding planner Donnie Brown, however, offers SheKnows some pre-wedding scoop. Could it really be this crazy? Of course it could. And, anyway, it sure is fun to speculate!

Chelsea’s Wedding

It sounds like a wedding fit for a princess.

Glass walls, tables overflowing with orchids, Swarovski crystal chandeliers, Casablanca lilies and hydrangeas, and a six-foot sugar flower-topped designer cake are just some of the lavish details expected at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding this weekend.

The Wedding buzz

“It’s going to be amazing,” says Donnie Brown, wedding planner featured in the Style Network’s hit TV series Whose Wedding is it Anyway?

“A lot of people are saying [it’s costing] $3 million. I am thinking more like $5 million.”

The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will marry fiancée Marc Mezvinsky on a 50-acre estate along the Hudson River in the sleepy village of Rhineback, New York.

Aside from Chelsea Clinton’s wedding dress — WWD just reported she is wearing a one-of-a-kind Vera Wang wedding dress — and the massive wedding tents, Brown, an expert at wedding details, is speculating on the other details via his well established network of planners, florists and designers.

“A lot of it is speculation, and a lot of it some research I’ve done,” he notes.

OK, so what about Chelsea’s dress?

Brown, who authored Donnie Brown Weddings: From the Couture to the Cake, says Clinton will most likely go off-white, eggshell or ivory — not plain white.

“Chelsea Clinton’s wedding dress won’t be like anything Vera Wang has done before or will do again,” he says. “It’s going to be a full skirt, long opera length with a train. There will be a lot of detailing and a sweetheart neckline.”

As far as the jewelry, Brown says a top jeweler will most likely loan Clinton some jewels. “These jewelry designers will jump through hoops to loan her the jewelry,” he says.

The Wedding reception

Brown estimates the Clintons are spending about $100,000 on lighting — including custom Swarovski crystal chandeliers in the tents and LED room wash lighting.

Meanwhile, the tents, where the reception and wedding will take place, sound more like a luxurious palace in the middle of the country than a temporary structure.

Brown says glass walls will allow guests to enjoy the gorgeous nature surrounding them. Air-conditioning, LED lighting and luxurious portable bathrooms will ensure their comfort.

“There will be a tent for the cocktail hour, a tent for the ceremony and a service tent,” he says. “They also have had washrooms brought in called the Presidential Series Luxury Washrooms. They will have three of them: One for the service staff, one for ladies and one for men. They have marble or granite countertops, hardwood floors, mirrors, multiple vanities and multiple stalls. There will be male and female attendants on staff in the bathroom. This we know for a fact.”

Brown estimates the Clintons are spending about $100,000 on lighting — including custom Swarovski crystal chandeliers in the tents and LED wash lighting, which allows the room to transition from one color to another with a computer switch over the course of the evening.

Chelsea’s wedding flowers

The flower types have been leaked, and Brown guesses the colors will be white ivory, perhaps even soft peach and soft yellow.

“They will be very elegant, very rich and very supple, full Flemish florals,” he says. “The florals I am finding are orchids, Casablanca lilies, hydrangeas, garden roses and other perennials mixed in. They should all be sitting on top of misshapen tables. I am thinking they are doing a combination of rectangular, square and round tables, and the florals will be different on those tables. It will all flow together perfectly.”

Chelsea’s wedding decor

If Brown is correct, everyone at the wedding will be seated on what is known as Chameleon Chairs, which give the appearance of custom chairs and can cost $50 to $100 a chair to rent.

“These chairs are the hot new trend, and they are stunning,” he says. “They have slipcovers that go over them in all textures and colors. They look like a custom fabric chair with leather, satin or silk cushion to sit on. They are the most elegant chairs you can get right now.”

And let us not forget about Chelsea’s cake

Brown has a strong feeling the Clintons have hired legendary NYC cake designer Sylvia Weinstock, whose prices for a grand wedding cake can run $20,000 to $40,000.

“It’s going to be a tall cake, about six feet, covered in sugar flowers,” he says. “That will be the most elegant way to do it. They’re going to want a grand cake that will blow everyone away, and that’s what Sylvia Weinstock does.”
