How to spend time together and give back during the holidays

The holidays can be very stressful and busy. Couples oftentimes drift apart because they can’t spend enough time together. This holiday season, give back to those in need and reconnect with each other at the same time.

Support a local charity

Kind acts for those in need can bring you and your spouse closer together, and you’ll also appreciate each other even more. Locate a charity in your area that needs help. At holiday time, consider a soup kitchen that needs volunteers, a foster care agency or children’s shelter that needs Christmas presents for the kids, or a unwed mothers’ shelter that needs baby clothes, bottles, cribs and other items. Volunteer your time together or go shopping with your spouse and then donate the goods together.

Adopt a family

Ask your church or charity service organization to help you locate a family that needs adopted for Christmas. Together you can shop for Christmas presents for this family and then have the family over your house for dinner on Christmas Day. A heart-warming act for a family in crisis at Christmas time is a truly special thing to do. The family will appreciate it and you’ll appreciate your own lives together.
