Man Candy Mondays: Brad Pitt

If there were ever a male specimen sent directly from the gods to mingle with mortals, it would be Brad Pitt. With an aura about him that reads both “hometown hottie” and “A-list glitterati,” Brad has the world (and our hearts) on a string, and we hear his role in Moneyball, in theaters now, is his best work in years. This is one baseball movie you don’t have to drag us to!

Man Candy Mondays: Brad Pitt

Born: December 18, 1963

Hometown: Shawnee, Oklahoma

Height: 5’11”

Why we love Brad Pitt:

From the effortlessly sexy way he wears a tux on the red carpet to his humanitarian efforts to how he puts his kids first, we (still) have a crush on Brad Pitt after all of these years.

Early Brad Pitt movies set our hearts aflutter

There’s no question that Midwestern boy Pitt scored larger roles in more mainstream films as the years went on, but we can’t discount his early parts, which burned a hole in our collective retinas. He was so hot! From his tousled blonde locks and killer bod as a young con man in Thelma and Louise to his devil-may-care attitude in A River Runs Through It to his flowing mane in Legends of the Fall, Pitt was special even way back when. People magazine agreed, naming him 1995’s Sexiest Man Alive.

As his characters grew more complex — a conflicted detective in Se7en, Edward Norton’s alter ego in Fight Club — we sure never forgot his pretty-boy roots, which made his transformation into a card-carrying superstar even more satisfying for his original fans!

He champions causes that matter to him

Aside from his globe-trotting humanitarian work with such charities as Doctors Without Borders and the Daniel Pearl Foundation alongside long-term partner Angelina Jolie, Pitt has made a name for himself assisting with rebuilding efforts in New Orleans, post-Hurricane Katrina. His charity, the Make It Right Foundation, aims to build 150 affordable, green homes in the Ninth Ward. As he told Nola.com, Pitt fell in love with the city while filming Interview with the Vampire in 1994:

“It got under my skin. Everything was sexy and sultry. I’d ride my bike all over the place, amazed by the architecture. I’d return to New Orleans every chance I could. What can I say; it’s got the best people, the best everything. It’s the most interesting city in America.”

And we’re sure the city loves you back, Brad!

He’s a family man

If there’s a 180-degree change Brad has undergone in his life, it’s morphing into a dad after his initial marriage to Jennifer Aniston ended. Brad now has six kids (Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox) — three adopted from other countries, and the last three biological — with actress Angelina Jolie. Here’s what he once told Parade about his whirlwind life:

“I travel a lot. I don’t feel restless, I just like to travel. I like to see it all. We’re trying to spend more time in the South of France because our kids have a more normal life there. I don’t believe there is any way around our kids being international. So we have projects in each of their respective countries, and we put a big emphasis on their learning their native languages.”

But making sure the kids are worldly is only part of the life he and Angelina have designed for their brood. He told the Associated Press that he takes inspiration from his childhood, in Springfield, Missouri, for his own family:

“I had a friend who had a big family when I was a kid. I just loved the chaos around the breakfast table and the fighting and the ribbing, and the mom making pancakes for everyone or the dad making pancakes.”

Mmmm…Brad Pitt and homemade pancakes… Sounds like a winning combination!

Brad Pitt’s relationship status:

Known for dating famous women including Juliette Lewis, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston (whom he was married to from 2000 to 2005), Pitt’s romantic activities have been tabloid fodder for years. Is marriage in the cards for Brad and current partner Angelina Jolie? Probably not for a while. He recently said that he and Angelina would get married when “everybody” (meaning gay couples) can too.

As for his recent ill-received comments about his marriage to Jennifer Aniston (“It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.”), well, we say: Let those among us who have never spoken a bad word about their exes throw the first stone. We forgive you, Brad!
