Some of these celebs got married super-fast, and some just seemed like an odd pair. But contrary to our assumptions (and unlike Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries), these couples stayed together — and proved everyone wrong! Here are our top picks for crazy-in-love (and just plain crazy) couples along with their tips for what makes a marriage last.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
Married: Sept. 27, 2009 — present
Theirs was a quick courtship, to be sure. The media reported in September 2009 that the pair was engaged and they wed that same month, on Sept. 29, 2009. Also, Lamar’s two kids by his ex-girlfriend Liza Morales set off alarm bells with some, suggesting maybe Odom just wanted to take a ride on the Kardashian fame train. But the duo proved everyone wrong. They’ve been married for more than two years now.
In their own words: “Two years ago today I married my best friend and the love of my life. WOW. Can you believe it’s been two years?! 730 days, and I still feel like a newlywed, I still blush when my hubby says my name, and I still get giddy when he’s about to walk in the door. I truly am the luckiest girl in the world and I count my blessings every single day.” — Khloe Kardashian, via her blog

Katy Perry and Russell Brand
Married: Oct. 23, 2010 — present
The pairing of Russell Brand, the funnyman with a wild past, and Katy Perry, the over-the-top technicolor pop tart, seemed almost inevitable, with the way their giant personalities seemed to complement each other. But did anyone expect them to become engaged in September 2009, the same month they started dating? (They wed about a year later, in October 2010.) Well, the joke is on us. They’re still going strong.
In their own words: “From the first date, I changed. No more women. Well, actually, thousands of women. I wake up to a different one each day, they’re all her. She chose me, bottled me and cuffed me. And now this is my life, my girl, this beautiful woman.” — Russell Brand, in his memoir My Booky Wook 2

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Married: Nov. 18, 2006 — present
Something about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes‘s courtship felt a little… off. He whisked her off to his California estate so he could meet her mere weeks after she ended her relationship with actor Chris Klein in early 2005. Cruise proposed only a few months later atop the Eiffel Tower on June 17, 2005. The pair gave oddly vague answers talking about the other — “She’s amazing… She’s just amazing,” Tom repeated on the infamous couch-jumping episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show — and they announced that October that Katie was pregnant. The pair wed nonetheless in Italy on Nov. 18, 2006, seven months after Suri’s birth. The couple is still a mystery, but an airtight one at that.
In their own words: “I want to marry her as soon as possible. You have to do what you feel is right. It’s (about) your own integrity and how you want to live your life.” — Tom Cruise, to People in 2005

Ice-T and Coco Austin
Married: Dec. 31, 2001 — present
This pair is mismatched in looks but a perfect fit in love — the unlikely couple, a rapper and a buxom blonde B-movie actress and swimsuit model — recently showed the world just how well they mesh, with their reality show, Ice Loves Coco. Frankly, any gal would be lucky to have a man who loves her as much as, well, Ice loves Coco. The pair renewed their vows on their 10th anniversary, in 2011.
In their own words: “We have this thing we call the sexual code. Every man and woman has a code. It’s the things that turn them on. Now let’s get to jungle sex. A guy might need his woman in a football jersey and some roller skates. If that does it for him, and she’s willing to accommodate it, then it’s going to be great sex forever. It might be kinky. It might be freaky. You might not be able to handle it, but ask them.” — Ice-T, to Us Weekly

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas
Married: Nov. 18, 2000 — present
An age difference of exactly 25 years and a wedding that took place right on the heels of Douglas’s divorce from his first wife didn’t stop this dynamic film duo from sticking it out this long. The pair has two children together. During Douglas’s battle with throat cancer, Zeta-Jones was visibly by his side, as he was by hers during her struggle with bipolar disorder.
In their own words: “It takes a lot of courage to seek help and I am proud of Catherine for doing something positive about her situation. It’s onwards and upwards for us.” — Michael Douglas about Catherine Zeta-Jones‘s mental health, on The Oprah Winfrey Show
