Whether you’re suddenly single, playing the field or on the lookout for Mr. Right, winter can be a great time to take a step back from the dating pool as a way to refresh and re-prioritize what’s important. We share some simple tips for taking a colder weather dating break.
Refocus on yourself
When you’re consumed with a new guy or consumed with finding a guy, you aren’t focused on you and what you need. Take some time this winter to re-focus on yourself and do some things just for you. That could be something ultra-simple: indulging in great books and hot baths whenever you feel like it, or something more significant: kicking a bad habit and putting your health first. Either way, use the guy-free time to your advantage and emerge from the winter a better, more focused person.
Spend more quality time with friends
Having a guy in your life (or obsession with a guy) doesn’t leave loads of time to spend with the people you love. Call that friend you haven’t seen since last winter, finally start that weekly lunch date with your mom and sister or just work on being there more for the people in your life. Simply calling your dad to ask how he is or dropping in on your BFF unannounced with ice cream and a great movie can make a huge difference in the lives of those around you.
Figure out what you really want
Ditch the distractions brought on by dating and clear your head so you can figure out what you really want — and what you don’t. The more time you take away from the dating world, the easier it will be to weed out the parts of your love life that weren’t working. If you always seem to attract flaky guys or needy guys, now’s your chance to figure out why and break those dating patterns that have been getting you nowhere.
Set some long-term goals
Along with deciding what you really want out of your love life, a dating break can also be a great time to set some bigger goals for yourself. What do you want out of life? Whether it’s a new job, a promotion, a healthier lifestyle or you want to save to buy a house or a new car, use this time to devise a plan for how you’re going to get what you want. And then go for it!
Learn something new
One of the best uses of a dating break (or any free time you might have) is learning something new. Learning builds confidence and keeps your life interesting. Enroll in a language studies program, take a cooking class, finally figure out how to use that fancy camera you splurged on last year — but commit to challenging yourself this winter.
