Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert have a strict policy to help keep their two-year marriage strong: no secrets, ever!
Blake Shelton has one message for fans: Don’t believe the rumors — his marriage to fellow country superstar Miranda Lambert is just fine.
The pair — married since 2011 — put on a solid front when Shelton was accused of cheating earlier this year. It wasn’t an act, though: The Voice coach has vehemently denied any wrongdoing — and Lambert stuck by him.
There’s a reason for that, according to Shelton.
“[I tell Miranda], ‘I have nothing to hide from you,'” he told People in a new cover interview. “That’s always been our policy: ‘Here’s my phone. Go through it.'”
“That’s really the kind of trust we have,” Shelton continued. “There are no secrets. [I’ll say,] ‘Go dig through my drawers or my computer if you feel like you need to.’ And that’s been a really good thing, because I don’t want her to ever have any doubts.”
But, is so much transparency necessary? We asked Carole Lieberman, M.D., psychiatrist and author of Bad Girls: Why Men Love Them & How Good Girls Can Learn Their Secrets, to give us some insight.
“In an ideal relationship, your partner is not suspicious enough to need to go through all of your drawers or computer,” Dr. Lieberman says. “However, giving your partner access to everything does show them that you have nothing to hide, or at least that you’re not hiding it in your drawers or computer. Blake’s exposure on The Voice has turned him into a heartthrob for many more millions of women. So, it is understandable that Miranda is feeling more insecure.”
That insecurity, says Dr. Lieberman, can turn to resentment if the couple doesn’t deal with it openly.
“It’s best to not have anything to hide from your partner, such that they could have access to your text messages, voicemails and emails,” she continues. “But, if your partner feels the need to snoop, you may well feel frustrated and resentful about their lack of trust.”
Let’s hope that doesn’t happen with Blake and Miranda — this hilarious duo is perfect for each other!
