Clothespin airplane

You can turn ordinary clothespins into playthings when you let your child’s imagination lead the way. Using varying sizes of Popsicle sticks and any decorations you have on hand, creating a pint-sized plane following these instructions is a cinch — even if you don’t follow these steps exactly.

What you’ll need:

  • Clothespin
  • 2 large Popsicle sticks
  • 1 small Popsicle stick
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • Markers
  • Small button
  • Glue

What you’ll do:

  1. Have your youngster color the clothespin, all of the Popsicle sticks and the wooden spoon using markers.
  2. Glue one large Popsicle stick on the top and bottom of the clothespin, just in front of the joint, to create the wings of the plane.
  3. Glue the small Popsicle stick to the back of the clothespin, on the top, to create a tail wing.
  4. Glue the wooden spoon to the front top tip of the clothespin to create a propeller and add the button to the middle of the propeller with a dab of glue.
  5. Once your clothespin craft for kids dries, your kiddo’s imagination will be ready to take flight!

Clothespin shark

Take a bite out of boredom with this easy to make clothespin craft for kids that can be as simple or creative as your youngster can envision! But don’t let the shark shape limit you — you can create any fish, alligator, snake or more out of this simple clothespin craft.

What you’ll need:

  • Clothespin
  • White cardstock paper
  • Markers
  • Glue

What you’ll do:

  1. Using your white cardstock, sketch a shark slightly larger than your clothespin from the joint to the front tip. Keep in mind that you don’t need to draw a tail, because the clothespin will represent these hind fins.
  2. Cut out your shark shape and cut straight down the middle lengthwise from your shark’s mouth to the “tail” portion.
  3. Glue each half of your shark shape to the side of your clothespin, lining each half up to look like a whole shark when the clothespin is on its side.
  4. Once dry, pinch the shark’s tail to open and close this king-of-the-ocean’s jaws for a clothespin craft for kids that will take the bait! You can also create clothespin fish in the same fashion, should your kiddos get wild about this summertime craft for kids.

Clothespin dragonfly

Whether you use scrapbook paper, vellum or let your creative kids go nuts, making colorful wings for these clothespin dragonfly crafts is quick and easy afternoon fun. These winged friends can be used to display art, keep chip bags closed or simply find a spot along your youngster’s window treatments!

What you’ll need:

  • Clothespin
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Buttons
  • Googly eyes

What you’ll do:

  1. Have your child decorate the clothespin using markers, buttons and glue. You can also use any craft supplies you have on hand, such as glitter, pom-poms or paint. The more colorful the better!
  2. Glue a pair of googly eyes to the top front of the clothespin to create the dragonfly’s eyes.
  3. Sketch a pair of long, double wings on your scrapbook paper and glue them to the top of the clothespin craft for kids near the eyes — you’ll want to leave a long tail for your dragonfly.
  4. Once dry, your kiddos can have a dragonfly race in the backyard, use them to clip their favorite snacks closed or even use them to display their favorite summer photos by setting them upright on their tails — the possibilities are endless!
