Your preschooler will be delighted to make these projects, created from large and small wooden craft sticks or leftover sticks from your favorite frozen treat. The snowflake ornaments make a sweet gift, the snowmen can be made into magnets and the trees can either be set in the branches of a Christmas tree or also made into magnets.
Snowflake ornament
Supplies:
- 3-5 craft sticks per snowflake
- White craft puffs
- White paint and paintbrush
- Fine silver glitter
- Elmer’s Early Learners Glue Pen
- String or magnet (optional)
Directions:
- First, paint all of the craft sticks white. Allow to dry completely.
- Next, glue one stick on top of another, in an X pattern.
- Then, crisscross that X pattern with another stick and glue into place. You can continue to stack and glue sticks, as desired.
- When that glue is completely dry, coat the front side of the snowflake in a thin layer of glue, using the fine tip of the Elmer’s Early Learners Glue Pen.
- Sprinkle glitter to coat the glue and let dry.
- Finally, glue on the white puff balls. Allow to dry completely.
- Then, either glue a magnet to the back or tie a string around one of the ends to hang.
Snowman
Supplies:
- 1 large wide wooden craft stick per snowman
- Washi tape
- Buttons
- White paint and paintbrush
- Orange scrapbook paper
- Black card stock
- Fine-tipped pencil
- Elmer’s Early Learners Glue Pen
- String or magnet (optional)
Directions:
- First, paint the craft stick white. Once it is dry, fold a 4-inch piece of patterned washi tape over the upper middle of the stick and trim the end diagonally.
- Glue 2 to 3 buttons under the washi tape “scarf.”
- Next, cut out a triangular shape from the orange paper for the nose, and a hat shape from the black paper. Then glue into place.
- Finally, add eyes using a sharp pencil.
- Add a magnet with glue to the back to hang on the fridge or glue a loop of string to hang on the Christmas tree.
Christmas tree
Supplies:
- 1 large/wide wooden craft stick per tree
- 4 small craft sticks
- Acrylic craft paint in green and brown
- Paintbrush
- Sequins
- Yellow button
- Glue
- String or magnet (optional)
Directions:
- First, paint the large craft stick brown.
- Next — an adult needs to complete this part — use sharp scissors and trim your smaller sticks as follows: 1 inch by 3.5 inches, 1 inch by 2.5 inches and 1 inch by 1.5 inches.
- Paint these pieces green. Allow all paint to dry.
- Then, glue the green sticks to the base piece as shown.
- Once the glue is dry, and the pieces are secured in place, glue a yellow button “star” at the top and sequin “ornaments” on the green branches.
- Add a magnet to the back with glue to hang on the fridge, or glue a loop of string to hang on the Christmas tree.
