Make a family of
jack-o’-lanterns!
Supplies needed:
- Tissue paper in various shades of orange and yellow
- Elmer’s® Washable School Glue
- Jars in various sizes
- Black card stock
- Foam craft paintbrush
- Tea light candle
Instructions:
Cut tissue paper squares
Cut out small, manageable squares of tissue paper in each of your shades of orange and yellow. The younger the child, the bigger the squares you should cut. However, they shouldn’t measure larger than 2 by 2 inches, at the biggest.
Coat jar in glue
Squirt out a small amount of glue onto a paper plate, to be used like it is paint. Using a foam brush, apply a thin coat of glue all over the outside surface of the jar. Your child may need a bit of help with this, and may want to work in sections versus doing the entire job at one time.
Adhere the tissue paper
Carefully apply tissue paper squares, one at a time, to the glue-covered jar. Use the foam brush, instead of hands, to press pieces down. Work in small sections at a time, as needed, to layer multiple colors on top of one another.
Coat tissue paper in glue
Once the glass is completely covered in tissue paper squares, use the foam brush to paint on a layer of glue on top. Make sure to seal in any pieces that may not have been completely glued to the jar. Use your hands to smooth any bubbles or creases. Let dry completely before handling.
Add the face
Cut out a face from black card stock. Once the jar is dry, adhere the pieces using glue. Use the same foam brush process to seal the top.
