Animal crafts you can make with your kids

Dog pom-pom craft

Supplies:

  • Yarn in the color of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Black felt
  • Red pipe cleaner
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Craft glue

Directions:

  1. First, cut a 6-inch length of yarn and lay it horizontally on the table.
  2. Next, hold your hand with your palm facing you and hold the end of the yarn in your palm under your thumb and wrap the yarn around your hand around 150 times. Cut with scissors at the end. Hint — you can use 2 different colors of yarn to make this process move twice as quickly.
  3. Slip the yarn wrap from your fingers and carefully lay it on the table on top of the piece of yarn you previously cut. Make sure that the extra length of yarn runs across the middle of your yarn wrap perpendicular to your looped ends.
  4. Bring the 2 ends of the loose length of yarn together and tie them in a knot as tightly as you can. You’ll now use the scissors to snip the yarn loops into individual pieces to form your pom-pom shape.
  5. Once your loops are all clipped, fluff out and arrange in a ball shape, being mindful not to pull out any loose ends that may become separated from your pom-pom.
  6. Next, cut 2 long oval ear shapes and a small oval nose from your black felt and glue to the sides and front of your pom-pom dog with craft glue.
  7. Cut a small piece of red pipe cleaner and bend to form a U shape for the tongue. Glue under the nose of your animal craft, then glue the wiggle eyes above the nose.
  8. Once dry, your dog animal craft is just as cute as a puppy — without all the mess that comes along with having a dog.
