Easy snowman snow gauge

Part fun and part science, you can keep track of how much snow has fallen with this DIY snow gauge.

Supplies:

  • Paint stick
  • White paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Black marker
  • Orange marker
  • Black craft foam
  • Small piece of fabric or ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

Directions:

  1. Cover the paint stick with a coat of paint. (Tip: If you live in an area where snow falls in feet instead of inches, ask for an extra-long paint stick at the hardware store.)
  2. Once the paint is dry, lay a ruler alongside the paintbrush. Mark off every inch with a black line, then number each line beginning at the bottom of the stick.
  3. Draw eyes and a mouth on the top of the paint stick with a black marker, then use the orange marker to draw a carrot nose.
  4. Cut out a hat from the black craft foam and glue it to the top of the paint stick.
  5. Cut a narrow strip of fabric and tie it around the notch in the stick to make the snowman’s scarf.
  6. Take the snow gauge outside to measure how much snow has fallen!
