The simplest toys are usually the most fun for children, and this DIY toy car racetrack is no exception. It will only take about a half hour to build, but it will provide hours and hours of fun for kids of all ages!
You don’t need to spend money on a cheaply-made (and often difficult to put together) plastic track. With some cardboard and duct tape, you can make this fun race track yourself at home.
Supplies:
- Large, flat piece of cardboard
- Ruler or yardstick
- 1/4 inch dowel
- 1/8 inch dowel
- Duct tape
- Box cutter
- Scissors
- Card stock
- Alphabet stickers
- Toy race cars
Directions:
Step 1
Cut a long piece of cardboard that is approximately 6 inches wide.
Step 2
Cut the 1/4-inch dowel down to the same length as the piece of cardboard. Duct tape it to the center of the cardboard.
Step 3
Cut 2 strips that are 1-inch wide and the same length as the first piece of cardboard.
Step 4
Tape the strips to the sides of the first piece of cardboard using duct tape on both sides.
Step 5
Cut 2 smaller pieces of cardboard that are 6 inches long and 4 inches wide.
Step 6
Tape the smaller pieces of cardboard to both ends of the track.
Step 7
Mark the starting line with the alphabet stickers at one end of the track.
Step 8
Set up the ramp on a piece of furniture.
Step 9
Cut 2 pieces of the 1/8-inch dowel that are 8 inches long.
Step 10
Tape the 2 dowels to either end of the racetrack. Cut a rectangle out of card stock and spell out the word “Finish” in alphabet letters. Tape the card stock to the dowels.
Step 11
Line the race cars up at the starting line.
Step 12
Watch your race cars as they race for the finish line!
