You may remember Alanis Morissette best for the music that got you through every high school breakup, but as a mom the 40-year-old singer is known for being a fierce breastfeeding advocate. She believes in attachment parenting — and in applying those theories to every stage of development, especially when it comes to touch and affection. In an age where kids can feel increasingly disconnected from “real life,” this seems like a really solid plan. (Excuse me while I hug my children.)
A fan of extended breastfeeding, Morissette has always made it clear that she supports moms who choose to breastfeed and that breastfeeding was the right path for her and her son, Ever. “To know that I can provide my son with comfort and connection when he needs it is so very important for me to know as a mom,” Morissette told SheKnows in 2012. Moms continue to struggle to get the support they need to breastfeed, pump at work and feed their babies in public. A celebrity thumbs up (or boobs out) can go a long way toward normalizing what is a completely natural act.
