Being on a budget for the holidays doesn’t mean you and your kids can’t indulge in a little crafting fun. Check out these easy and fun Christmas craft ideas with supplies purchased from the dollar store.

Garland Christmas tree

Supplies:

  • Styrofoam cone
  • Tinsel garland
  • Star ornament
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Glue 1 end of the tinsel garland to the top of the Styrofoam cone.
  2. After the glue has dried, wrap the garland around the Styrofoam cone. Glue the garland every few inches to help keep it in place.
  3. Once you reach the base of the cone, trim away any excess garland and glue the end of the garland to the cone.
  4. Glue a small star ornament to the top of the garland Christmas tree.

Glitter pomander wreath

Supplies:

  • Styrofoam wreath form
  • Wide Christmas ribbon
  • 6-8 glitter pomanders
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Glue 1 end of the ribbon to the Styrofoam wreath form.
  2. Once the glue has dried, wrap the ribbon around the wreath form so that all of the Styrofoam is covered.
  3. Glue the other end of the ribbon to the wreath form to hold it in place.
  4. Glue the glitter pomanders to the wreath form.
  5. Cut a 12-inch piece of ribbon. Loop it around the wreath and tie the 2 ends of the ribbon in a knot. Use the ribbon to hang the wreath.

Christmas picture frame

Supplies:

  • Clear plastic picture frame
  • Red and green glass stones
  • Superglue or hot glue

Directions:

  1. Glue 1 red glass stone in each corner of the picture frame.
  2. Glue a green glass stone on either side of each red stone to mimic the look of holly berries. If you like, you can alternate colors of stones and fill in the border of the frame.
  3. Fill the picture frame with your favorite holiday photo.

Decorated Christmas candles

Supplies:

  • Small pillar and votive candles
  • Shimmer tape in Christmas colors
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. For pillar candles, wrap multiple colors of shimmer tape around the candle, alternating the colors.
  2. For small votive candles, wrap a single piece of shimmer tape around the votive holder.
  3. Watch the candles closely as they burn and remove the layers of tape as the candles burn down so that they don’t catch on fire.
