Christmas is never more special than when you have a new baby. Here are some fun ways to mark this special first.
Whether your baby is 11 months old or just a few weeks old, Christmas is a special milestone for your family. Mark your baby’s first festive season with some of these great ideas.
Snap happy family
Remember your baby’s first Christmas with a special photo shoot. Whether it is just baby or all of you, a professional photo shoot can be a nice memento for you, family and friends.
Professional photographers, Viva, based in Western Australia, offer some great tips for families preparing for a photo shoot, including putting extra thought into your outfits.
“Talk about what you will wear. Large or bright patterns are a no-no. Wear similar toned colours; coordinate with your family and test out a few different options. Double check that everything is clean and ready before the big day, to prevent rushing around,” Viva recommends.
Being Christmas, don’t be afraid to bring along a few props like Santa hats or wrapped presents. You might just prefer the look of a “fun” Christmas photo instead of the classic posed image.
Stamp it
A great keepsake at Christmas time can be to make ink prints of your baby’s feet or hands. Using a waterbased and non-toxic body paint, gently make a stamp of the hands and feet on cardboard or paper.
You can put the stamped work in a shadow box with other Christmas decorations or photos, or frame it and place it near your Christmas tree.
It might also be a sweet idea to include a photocopy of the hand/feet prints in Christmas cards to family and friends.
Beautiful baubles
You might like to create your own baubles to hang on the tree as a classic Christmas keepsake. Most good art stores or department stores now sell DIY Christmas baubles. Mark them with your baby’s name and birthdate.
Alternatively, many online digital photo printing companies now allow you to upload a photo of your baby and have them professionally printed on Christmas ornaments. One such company is Snapfish, which offers photo printing on ornaments in the shape of stars, hearts or snowflakes.
Traditional stocking
A classic and gorgeous Christmas stocking can be the perfect way to remember your baby’s first Christmas. Spend a little extra buying a good quality Christmas stocking and have it professionally emroidered with your baby’s name and birthdate.
You can keep this for many years to come and, as your family grows, it will be easy to do the same for siblings.
