Playtime Just Got a lot Better

Believe it or not, it’s nearly time to start thinking about Christmas pressies for your kids. Luckily, Funtastic has just launched a whole new range of toys for little princesses and princes. Whether you’re looking for high-tech, educational, or purely distracting toys, these ones all bring something fun to the playroom.

For the girls

Winx Sirenix

RRP: $35 each

Age range: 4+

Winx Club is in its fifth season and is still going strong, so it’s no surprise that a fresh batch of dolls has arrived in time for the new episodes. In case you’re not familiar with it, the show is about a bunch of ordinary school girls who transform into fairies with superpowers. The characters — Bloom, Stella, Flora and Aisha — are on two missions: to defeat evil and to maintain their status as trendsetters in the underwater world. They’re smart, stylish and good to the core, and a great “doll model” for your kids to play with. The coolest feature? Along with changing the dolls’ clothes, you can switch up the colour of their hair.

Disney Fairies Sky High Tink

RRP: $35

Age range: 4+

If you want to see your little girl’s eyes light up like never before, consider buying her “Sky High Tink”. In Peter Pan, Tinkerbell is the mischievous but lovable fairy who flies among the stars and adds sparkle to the storyline. With this high-tech toy, you can recreate the magic of flying. Just insert Tink into her flower base, pull on the dragonfly and off she goes! She can fly up to 10 feet high, so it might be a good idea to make this an “outdoor” toy.

Kawaii Crush

RRP: From $6 each

Age range: 4+

These mini dolls are a cheap but funky addition to any girl’s toy collection. In the Kawaii Crush world, each girl loves something and expresses her obsession through fashion and accessories. As the box says, “They’re all crushed out from head to toe!”. With this new range, the focus is on “cuddly pets”. There are six ridiculously cute dolls to choose from, each of which is obsessed with — you guessed it — a type of animal: Sunny Bunny Hop Hop, Katie Cat Meow Meow, Owlena Hoot Hoot, Amanda Panda Pop, Hannah Banana Nom Nom and Chilly Milly Yip Yip. To top it off, each doll comes with a mini furry friend.

Flutterbye Flying Fairy

RRP: $50 each

Age range: 9+

If you’re willing to splash some cash on your (slightly older) princess, you can’t go past Flutterbye Flying Fairy. Thanks to some seriously clever technology, this is the only fairy toy that can fly for 5 minutes straight. Here’s how it works: After charging her in the jewellery box she comes with, press a button to launch her into the air. Then, control her by waving your hand around. Amazingly — and provided you don’t go nuts with your hand movements — she responds to your cues. The toy also comes with sensors, so you don’t have to worry about it bashing into walls and ceilings. There are four pretty fairy sisters to choose from: Love, Dream, Sunshine and Rainbow.

Cabbage Patch 30th Anniversary Fashionality Kids

RRP: $59 each

Age range: 3+

Believe it or not, the Cabbage Patch Kids are 30 years old — and they don’t look like they’ve aged a day! To celebrate this milestone, the company has launched a range of limited edition dolls called the “Fashionality Kids”. Each doll sports a vintage-style birthday look, so expect bright colours, hair accessories and mega-watt smiles. Of course, the most iconic thing about the CPK is that they are “adopted” by their owners. As such, every doll in this range comes with a unique name, adoption papers and a birth certificate. Since these dolls will probably transport you back to your own childhood, don’t feel embarrassed if you want to join in with playtime…

Release date: This range will be released in Australia in November, making it the perfect last-minute stocking stuffer.

For the boys

Smasha-Ballz

RRP: $30

Age range: 3+

What’s furry, glows in the dark and makes awesome noises when you throw it around? Answer: the new line of Smasha-Ballz! These toys are every little rascal’s dream. They look like monsters but they are harmless. Basically, whenever you throw, kick or slam them, they vibrate and make funny sounds. The more you smash them, the crazier they’ll become. There are three new and funky-looking toys to collect: Mandroid the Syborg, Brainz the Zombie and Phara-ooooh the Mummy. As you’ve probably guessed, each one comes with its own unique set of sounds.

Zombie Zity Foil Pack

RRP: $3 each

Age range: 4+

It’s a fact: Most boys are wired to love zombies. If your little man is one of them, he will love this new set of Zombie Zity collectible figurines. Each foil pack comes with two Micro Zombies, a trading card and a collector’s brochure (so he can excitedly circle his next big purchase). These mini zombies take no enemies: They can be squished, thrown around and bounced, and they’ll come out the other side without a scratch. These are the boys’ answer to the Kawaii Crush dolls: There are 48 to collect, they are cheap and, chances are, they’ll never get bored of them.

Power Rangers MegaForce Deluxe Gosei Morpher

RRP: $50

Age range: 4+

The boys have their own milestone to celebrate this year: It’s the Power Rangers’ 20th anniversary! There are quite a few collectors’ toys out in honour of that, and the Deluxe Gosei Morpher is proving to be very popular. Featuring ultra-cool lights and sounds, the Morpher opens to allow you to place a card inside. It comes with 10 cards, each of which unlocks their own set of phrases and sound effects. The fun doesn’t stop there, though: There are 18 cards to collect in total. This toy meshes old school Power Rangers with new technology and it’s a winner.
