In honor of International Women’s Day, let’s hear from a baby feminist who captured woman power perfectly in a home video. Four-year-old Siahj Chase (Cici for short) was telling her mom how her day went at school, and part of the recap involved her confronting a boy who called her “ugly.”
Before showing you the video, let me give you a quick rundown of the highlights. First off, her mom has her introduce herself, which leads me to believe they had the conversation first, and her mom was so impressed by what her daughter had said that she simply had to get it on camera. However, the best part of her introduction is that she started saying her name was Cici, then corrected herself by saying, “No… Hey, it’s Siahj Catiana Chase.” I thought this was wonderful, because not only did she want to get it right, but she wanted to be represented by her full, formal name — a detail that made her seem proud and super mature.
Then her mom asks her, “What did you do in school today?” To which Cici — oh, I’m sorry, Siahj Catiana Chase — replied, “A little boy said I looked [long pause] ugly.” Check out how she handles it.
First off, I just have to say, anyone who could say this adorable face is ugly is beyond me. But before I can get too mad, Siahj gives the greatest response of all time. “I said, ‘I didn’t come here to make a fashion statement. I came here to learn, not look pretty.” And she delivers this comeback with the most awesome attitude — radiating sass and charisma. I swear, if someone bullied me like that today, there’s no way I’d be able to spring back that well.
Oh, but it doesn’t stop there. Somehow this little boy was still standing after Siahj’s response. “The little boy said I looked bad, and I said, ‘Did you look in the mirror lately? Buh-bye, see you later. You’re making me mad.'” Pardon me while I steal this fabulous shutdown and use it on the next jerk who crosses me.

We’ll be keeping an eye on you, Ms. Chase. There will always be haters, but you’ve taught us that all you need to say to them is, “Buh-bye, see you later. You’re making me mad.”
