Police say mom shot the TV instead of turning it off because Primus sucks

Sometimes kids watch things on TV that cause your very last nerve to unravel. We’ve all been there. For me, it’s those Minecraft walk-throughs on YouTube, with the British guy droning on and on. For a mom in Illinois, it was a Primus video.

While most parents grab the remote or at the very worst grab the remote and then throw the remote out the window, this mom grabbed a rifle and annihilated the TV. Oops.

What police say 40-year-old Jennifer Ullery did is undoubtably really dangerous and awful and put her three children at risk, but there’s a small part of me that understands that knife edge of mindless rage. Especially when crappy metal videos with unending plucky bass are involved. I don’t think kids realize how close parents come to pummeling their terrible TV and noisy toys with sledgehammers.

In this case, the mom was charged with three counts of endangering the health and safety of a child, as well as firearm-related charges. Her kids — 11, 15 and 6 — remained in Department of Children and Family Services’ custody until she was released on bond.

Thankfully no one was injured — except for the TV. No word on whether it was a flat-screen or one of those ancient ones that probably deserves to be used as target practice anyway.

Next time you’re about to lose your mind over what your kids are watching on TV, consider reaching for the remote, not a .22. In fact, if you have any difficulties whatsoever controlling your anger, you may not be a good candidate for casual gun ownership.
