Royal baby name revealed: Kate Middleton’s baby name is fit for a princess

Kate Middleton and Prince William have finally announced the name of their daughter. The royal baby has a title, Her Royal Highness, Princess of Cambridge — and now she has a name.

After months of anticipation and guesses, we can finally confirm the name of the royal baby, who has the official title of Her Royal Highness, Princess of Cambridge. Kensington Palace announced the name via Twitter:

What a gorgeous name that is fit for a princess. Charlotte is a name of English origin, while the duchess and Prince William paid tribute to both Queen Elizabeth and his late mother, Diana.

Per royal tradition, the baby name is revealed only after her great-grandmother, the queen, has met the baby. Kate Middleton and Prince William didn’t announce Prince George’s name until several days after he was born.

The duchess was several days overdue but gave birth to her 8-pound, 3-ounce daughter on May 2. She reportedly had a quick labor and showed off the princess just 10 hours after giving birth, wearing a yellow Jenny Packham buttercup print dress.

Kensington Palace shared a close-up shot of the sleeping princess. Isn’t the duchess simply glowing? Who would have thought she had just given birth?

Many royal gamblers had put their money on Alice as the name of the royal baby, with many hoping that Diana would at least be included in the baby name. Other front-runners were Elizabeth, Charlotte, Victoria and Alexandra.
