Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, whom you may know best as Cersei Lannister, has just made the most beautiful promise to her unborn baby — and also confirmed the gender.
During a guest blog post on Plan International USA’s website, the English actress revealed that her second child is going to be a baby girl — son Wylie is 5 years old — and confessed the dreams she has for her daughter.
“I am having a baby girl in six weeks. You have all been so lovely in your messages to me, and I thank you for that,” she wrote. “My daughter will have freedom of choice. She will be free to dance, to sing, to be educated in the fields that spark her passion, to marry if she wants, to marry WHO she wants, to remain single, or to fall in love with another woman. She’ll be able to wear what she wants, put on lipstick, and read books that spark debate and expand her mind.

Headey then went on to explain that she intends to raise her daughter with love and respect, but not all women are afforded this basic human right.
“She will be loved, protected, respected, and celebrated. All these things that should be, and will be, basic human rights, are a promise to my daughter. My humble request is that you give what you can and maybe — just maybe — we can bring about the change we all wish to see.”

It’s a powerful and beautiful message — and one that we should all heed. Headey is a strong supporter of women’s rights in developing countries, where women often do not enjoy the same rights as we do.
