In a shocking video, a 7-year-old was caught calling a random man and his daughter the n-word while playing at the park. Kids may say the darnedest things, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that kids repeat everything they hear at home.
There is no evidence this child is being raised by racist parents. But since his parents were nowhere to be found at the park that day, evidence to the contrary doesn’t look too good either. There’s a reason this young boy thought it was perfectly OK to walk up to a man and his daughter at Lincoln Park and call them “black n******”more than once.
Be warned before watching this video: It contains a racial slur repeated several times. In the video, the surprisingly restrained victim of the boy’s attack recording the encounter says, “Go ahead, Caleb. This is Caleb. We’re at Lincoln Park right now. He wants to tell me something. What was that?”
To which Caleb replies with a big smile on his face, “You’re a black n******.”
The father replies to the camera, “I have no idea where his parents are. I don’t even know this little guy. I’ve never, ever wanted to strike a kid, but he kind of makes me want to. I don’t see his parents anywhere.” He adds, “He randomly just walked up to me and started doing this.”
On command, Caleb repeatedly and happily says the racial slur again and again. Caleb claims he doesn’t know who taught him the bad word and that no one says it around him — the child says he just learned the slur on his own. Caleb is also fully aware the word is “not very nice.”
If anyone deserves a medal in this situation, it is the father filming for how gracefully he handled the entire altercation. Sure, this is just a child we are seeing, but the things coming out of his mouth are far from innocent. This father took an onslaught of cruel verbal abuse in stride, in a public place, while also trying to teach the young boy what the weight of his words really meant. It doesn’t get any kinder than that.
As for Caleb, I sincerely hope this disgusting slur is not being used in his home on a daily basis, though that seems to be the most likely explanation for his verbal attack on two strangers. We all know kids pick up everything they hear and see in their environment. Even if his parents didn’t teach him these abusive words, it’s their job to put a stop to his dangerous behavior — like yesterday.
