Macklemore introduces daughter Sloane to the world in the sweetest way

Surprise! Macklemore revealed a two-month-old secret today: his daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty. The four-time Grammy award winner is finally breaking his silence as he debuted a new song that reveals his life as a father and the love he has for baby Sloane.

“There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe,” Macklemore wrote on his website. The 32-year-old Seattle native and his fiancée, Tricia Davis, have been keeping the news to themselves for the past two months — but not any longer. Taking to Instagram, the hip hop star shared a photo with fans of him holding his precious daughter’s hand. While the details of his upcoming nuptials are unknown (the couple of seven years became engaged in January 2013), lovers of Macklemore and his music can hear all about his journey as a father with the new song “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song).”

“She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible,” Macklemore said. “She is the love of my life. This song is for her.”

It’s OK if you need a few tissues. What a lucky girl baby Sloane is to have such a talented father who can lay everything he feels on a track for her to enjoy for years to come. Becoming a parent is one of the biggest joys you’ll ever experience in life. Nothing quite captures the emotions that run through you as you love and care for a beautiful child — though we’re pretty certain Macklemore comes close with his new song. Fans can download and listen to the song on his website.

Macklemore’s honesty is so refreshing as he opens up about feeling inadequate when it came to parenting. “I’ve always had some make-believe image in my head of who I would be as a father,” he said “I basically assumed that I’d have it all together.” Realizing that there were areas in his life that needed changing, he spent time looking at who he was as a man and how he could, in many ways, “grow up” and become a better father for his child.

How many of us had an image of what our life would be as a parent before reality set in? Once kids enter the picture, you make adjustments to the best of your ability. At the end of the day, there’s no such thing as a “perfect parent.” While you can’t promise that mistakes won’t happen, you can assure those you love of the promise to do all you can when it comes to being there for your child. There is no manual with how-to instructions, only life experiences.

Macklemore is a shining example of how fatherhood changes you. Hopefully, he can inspire more men  — and all new parents for that matter  — to be honest about their journey and embrace it to the fullest. As much as we love holding adorable babies (we can do without the lack of sleep), they only stay small for a moment. Anyone who has older children can tell you how fast they grow up, which can be a hard reality to accept. This is why it’s important to cherish every second you have with your little one, and if you feel inspired to write a song or document it in some way, please do so.
