Being a toddler is basically like having PMS — and here’s proof

While the female reproductive system is an amazing thing, suffering through PMS leaves much to be desired. You may think that no one but a fellow woman on her period understands exactly what you’re going through, but it turns out your toddler completely gets where you’re coming from.

Don’t believe us?

Here are just a few of the things women with PMS and toddlers have in common:

More: 10 Hilarious reasons your toddler is crying

1. They cry for no good reason.

Because the television show had a sad ending, because the wrong song came on the radio, because there’s no more string cheese: PMS and toddler logic lead to lots of tears over the same things.

2. They loathe wearing tight clothing.

Bellies should get to roam free, especially if they’re crampy and bloated.

3. They’re all about the snacks.

PMSing women and toddlers will happily munch all day long, going from sweet treats to savory and back again. And no, they do not want to share, so don’t ask.

4. They want their mommies.

It doesn’t matter if you’re 3 or 33, your mommy always knows how to make you feel better.

5. They tell you to leave them alone.

Sometimes you just want to be by yourself with your cramps and let your sad feelings work themselves out. Toddlers also need time to self-soothe, though they might take a stuffed friend along for moral support.

6. They just want to lay down.

The floor, the couch or even the nice cool tiles in the frozen food section all seem like perfectly reasonable places to take a quick nap, but sadly only toddlers can get away with sleeping in public like this without having to deal with some strange looks and awkward questions.

7. They seek comfort objects.

The way your toddler reacts when they can’t find their blankie and the panic you feel when you can’t find your heating pad? Same thing.

8. They’re prone to angry outbursts over little things.

You might think your toddler’s tantrum over a tower of blocks crumbling is a bit of an overreaction, until you recall the meltdown you had that time you tried to put together a bookshelf while on your period.

9. They’re very attached to their bottles.

A sippy cup full of milk or a nice glass of chardonnay: Either way, it’s best to ask before you assume they’re finished drinking, lest taking their cup away leads to another meltdown.

10. At the end of the day all they want is a hug.

Preferably from each other.
