Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had fun naming their firstborn baby, pairing two compass-inspired names to come up with North West. Will they take the same “direction” with their baby boy’s name?
Kardashian appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Showyesterday to discuss, among other things, West’s announcement that he wants to run for president (Kardashian thinks it would be “fun” to live in the White House) and what the couple will name their son, who is due to arrive in December.

North, now 2, goes by Nori, but many fans were critical of the Wests’ choice. Running with the theme, DeGeneres, of course, offered some clever suggestions for North’s little brother:

“I don’t think we’ll go another direction,” Kardashian explained. “It’s definitely not South — every time someone says South, I just want to roll my eyes. It’s not a good direction.” But the glowing mom-to-be did admit she rather likes one particular “direction” name.
“I do like the name Easton… Easton West,” Kardashian said. “I don’t think my husband likes that name, but I do like it.” DeGeneres, ever the hilarious host, let the sib-set roll off her tongue a few times: “NorthandEastonWest, NorthandEastonWest.” North, and East, and West…

The English name Easton was traditionally used as a surname that meant “from east town.” For once, the nation is ahead of the Kardashian clan: Easton has been growing in popularity since it first hit the charts in 1995. By 2012, the name was one of the 100 most popular names for boys in the U.S., and it currently sits at No. 83.
After Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick named their son Mason in 2010, the name became hugely popular across the country — it’s been among the top five boy names every year since. Naming their second child had the same effect: Penelope soared to the top 50 baby girl names after Miss Penelope Disick was born in 2012. It’s too soon to tell whether their son Reign, born December 2014, will be a name trendsetter as well.
