Jessa Duggar’s baby needs one more thing before she’ll share his name

Fans of the newest addition to the Duggar-Seewald clan will have to wait a little longer to find out his name.

Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald welcomed their baby boy just five days ago, after a rough delivery that landed Jessa in the hospital. Just yesterday, they shared a few first pictures of their newborn on Instagram, but they’re holding off on sharing the baby’s name. The reason? Well, they just haven’t decided yet.

In her post, lots of fans wanted to know what Baby Seewald’s new moniker would be, but Jessa isn’t spilling the beans yet. In the post, she tells everyone what the holdup is:

“Every time I look into this precious little face, I can’t believe he’s really mine! I feel blessed beyond measure! So in love! #BabySeewald (P.S. Still haven’t settled on his middle name! Looking forward to sharing with y’all as soon as we decide!)”

Before Baby Seewald made his appearance, the Seewalds were courting baby names on their family website and fan page, setting up a poll that allowed followers to add their baby name suggestions. Perhaps she’ll grab one of the top five baby boy name results — Luke, Zachary, Sawyer, Noah or Benjamin.

A few fans are suspicious of the decision, like one commenter who simply said, “You mean as soon as you get paid to release his name on the front of a magazine!” in response to Jessa’s caption. Of course, that’s always a possibility, especially given the family’s popularity, but it’s just as likely that Jessa is facing the conundrum so many new parents face — she’s just waiting for the name that seems right.

Even if you’ve had a name in mind for months, it can sometimes fall by the wayside when you meet your beautiful baby for the very first time. What you thought was the perfect decision might seem totally wrong when you finally meet the little person you’ve been waiting for for months.

Sometimes, even when you know your baby’s first name is spot on, the middle name can present more of a challenge, and it’s not unreasonable to want to have all three names lined up before you finally spill the beans. There’s a lot to consider when you’re choosing a middle name for a boy: Will you honor a loved one? Will it sound right paired with the first and last name? What if your child wants to be called by their middle name later? All these factors will play a part in the name you choose.

Whatever her reason for waiting, Jessa is in good company. Practitioners of Islam and Judaism traditionally wait seven days to name their babies, and in places like China and India, some parents hold off on choosing for a month or more.

Let’s hope we don’t have to wait that long!
