Getting your car stolen is pretty horrific, but it is every parent’s worst nightmare for their child to be kidnapped.

This nightmare recently happened to a Norfolk resident whose car was stolen by two men outside a local post office, 13News Now reports. But while the thieves were making their getaway, they noticed an 8-year-old boy in the backseat of the car.

Immediately our hearts pound with fear for the safety of the child, but instead of harming the boy, the carjackers reportedly asked him which school he went to. The child was then taken to Ghent Elementary School, and police discovered him there 15 minutes later.

“We found the child at school, unharmed, sitting in the classroom with a smile on his face,” Officer Daniel Hudson, a spokesperson for the Norfolk Police Department said, reports Wavy.

The boy told the officers that he had been a bit scared during the ride, but he was unharmed.

“The two guys got into the car, saw that he was in the car, and turned around and said, ‘Oh, we’re here to take you to school. Where do you go to school?’ He said ‘Ghent Elementary,’ and they took off to Ghent Elementary.”

After dropping the boy at school, the suspects took off in the car and police later found it abandoned three miles from the school. Finding the location of the vehicle was made even easier by the fact that the woman had left her cell phone in the car and she was able to track it using the Find My iPhone app.

While this is a crazy story, we’re glad that it had a happy ending and the boy was unharmed.
