Nick Carter announced this morning that he and his wife, Lauren Kitt, have already been dreaming up names for their unborn son, but he didn’t seem too sure about a top pick of theirs: Wyatt.
The DWTS finalist spoke to Raven-Symoné and Candace Cameron Bure after a performance on The View with his dance partner Sharna as a way to wrap up the season. It wasn’t long before the topic of all things baby came up, something Carter’s probably used to by now.
Carter announced on-air three weeks ago that he and his wife were expecting a baby, and then delighted fans with a live gender reveal. When the subject of names came up today this week, Carter revealed that he and Kitt were talking about a few possibilities. One of them is Wyatt, and Carter seemed nervous to spill the beans about it, about two minutes in:

“It’s a little weird, right?” He asked the hosts, and they assured him that it was not. And it isn’t! Wyatt, which means “brave in war,” is currently No. 41 on the chart of top baby boy’s names, which means it’s still uncommon enough to be a stand-out name, but certainly nowhere close to “weird.” As celebrity baby names go, it’s downright vanilla!
It’s possible that Carter wasn’t concerned so much that the name was weird so much as he got a few baby name announcement jitters.
Naming a baby is such a personal and monumental thing that opening up your top picks for scrutiny means that you might have to deal with judgment you weren’t quite ready to field. No one wants to get used to the idea of calling their child by a certain name, only to be told that it’s a bizarre, ugly or silly name.

That’s why tons of people opt to keep their baby’s name a secret until the baby is born, named and there’s no going back. It’s much more likely that Carter was just looking for a little reassurance on what amounts to be a big decision for new parents. Picking and loving a potential name in private is one thing, but announcing it to an audience can feel like a big risk for a lot of people, whether that audience is hundreds of fans or just a few close family members.
On the flip side, there are lots of great reasons to unabashedly share your child’s name as soon as you’ve got your favorite figured out. It’s a great way to bond with your baby, and if there is someone in your circle who might pass judgment on your pick, it gives you a chance to head off any snark before you’re holding your baby in your arms.

Either way, baby naming is so personal that it’s no one’s business but yours if you want to spill the beans ahead of time. We happen to think Wyatt is a great name, and if the couple goes with that, they should be assured that there’s nothing “weird” about it. Of course, we’d be curious to see what little brother Aaron thinks since he’s joked in the past to Celebuzz about his nephew’s name, saying: “If [Nick] loves me enough, he’ll name him Aaron.”
