There are a lot of misconceptions about motherhood out there: that working moms don’t love their kids, that women who formula-feed are cheating their children and, of course, that stay-at-home moms do nothing all day.

Stay-at-home moms have never gotten the respect they deserve because not having paid employment has always been seen as less demanding than having a job — this despite the fact that many paid jobs require sitting all day and using little brain power.
But the ease of being in one’s own home makes the mother’s day seem preferable. Add to that all of the time-saving advances that we have these days compared to when our mothers and grandmothers were parenting, and people can’t help but wonder, “Just what is it that stay-at-home moms do all day?” And that question makes stay-at-home moms laugh and laugh and laugh.

Any family with two working parents and no paid help knows that it takes many, many hours to get done all of the tasks necessary to keep a family going. In families with one stay-at-home parent, it’s not unusual for the working parent to have less of an idea how much work is involved because the stay-at-home parent is taking care of all that shit. There are so many moving parts and minutiae involved that it’s difficult to keep track of it all.
