If toddlers wrote New Year’s resolutions lists, here’s what they’d say

Grown-ups’ New Year’s resolutions generally fall into the same categories — we resolve to become healthier, use our time more efficiently, spend more wisely or achieve a lifelong dream. But adults aren’t the only ones who resolve to accomplish new goals in the New Year.

Their resolutions may be very different from yours, but your toddler has plenty they’d like to do in the next 365 days. If your toddler had the hand-eye coordination to write out their very own New Year’s resolutions, here’s what that list would look like.

  1. Run a successful campaign to remove peas from the house menu.
  2. Watch an entire season of Sesame Street in a single Saturday.
  3. Meet a talking animal.
  4. Take fewer naps.
  5. Sit in the front seat for a change.
  6. Get the neighbor to wave back at me.
  7. Drink more juice.
  8. Love myself enough to refuse to eat broken crackers.
  9. Finally figure out how to open the gate at the top of the stairs.
10. Ingest a pebble, coin or small button, just to see what all the fuss is about.
11. Master the art of using the potty.
12. Outgrow that itchy sweater.
13. Learn how to draw a circle.
14. Don’t be afraid to say “No.”
15. Hide Mommy’s keys somewhere she’ll never find them.
16. Dance like everyone’s watching.
17. Wake up even earlier to get more time out of the day.
 18. Repeat a four-letter word overheard in the car.
 19. Run to the end of the driveway and back without falling down.
 20. Conquer fear of the dark.
 21. Get tall enough to touch the light switch.
 22. Figure out what comes after Z.
