My, oh, my… your kids will love making this little guy! On cold winter days, this clever craft will keep them busy, while they create a cute, little snow buddy.
And better yet, no need for a treacherous trek to the craft store, as you’ll likely have all the supplies you need at home.
Supplies:
- 1 long, white adult tube sock (preferably all white with no design)
- Scissors
- 3 rubber bands
- 1-1/2 cups rice (dry)
- Hot glue gun
- 2 googly eyes
- 1 orange bead or sequin (for nose)
- 2 medium sequins or buttons
- 6 – 8-inch-long strip of scrap fabric (approximately 1 inch thick)
- Small colored pom-poms (optional)
Instructions:
Cut off the leg portion of the sock (approximately 4 inches). Then, set it aside. Using the foot portion, turn the sock inside out and secure a rubber band to the tip of the toe. Then, turn the sock right side out again. Fill the sock with 3/4 – 1 cup of dry rice. Twist and use a rubber band to secure the bottom part of the snowman. Add 1/4 – 1/2 cup of rice to the next part of the sock, so it is slightly smaller than the lower portion, and then secure a rubber band on the top. Don’t worry about the uneven part at the top, as it will get covered by his hat later.
Using a hot glue gun, attach 2 eyes, the orange nose and the buttons. You can use any beads, sequins or buttons you can find at home. Wrap the piece of fabric around the snowman’s neck as a scarf.
Lastly, use the leg portion of the sock as the snowman’s hat. Place the top part of the sock on the snowman’s head to create the rim of the hat, and then fold forward. You can add a pom-pom or sequin to the tip of the hat to decorate.
If you don’t have all of the supplies, be creative and make colorful or patterned snowmen from different kinds of socks. Find treasures from your kids’ craft supply drawers to decorate. Most of all, enjoy the time together making sensational snow day memories.
