Just nine months after giving birth to son Rafael, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin announced they’re expecting their third child together. To share the news, Hilaria posted a picture of her and Alec smooching on a city sidewalk to Instagram with a teddy bear included to reveal the gender.

It’s a boy! He’ll join Rafael and big sisters Ireland, 23, who is Alec’s daughter with Kim Basinger, and Carmen, who is 2. The new little guy is due this fall, which means yes, they’re going to have three children under the age of 3 by the end of the year. That makes one tired just thinking about all that’s involved in the care of three children.

Some studies show that mother and children benefit from spacing pregnancies at least two years apart, but there are plenty of benefits to having children close in age as well.

For one, having children so close together keeps parents in the zone, so to speak. You’re used to the diapers and the sleepless nights and constant monitoring for little fingers to find little things to put into little mouths. So you just keep going. Sometimes, when there’s a large span between children, you get out of that zone, and diving back into life with an infant after you’ve gotten used to your other child/children being more independent can be quite an adjustment.

The Baldwins certainly have some exhausting years ahead of them, but no one ever said parenting was going to be easy, no matter how many kids you have or what ages they are. All the laughter and joy they bring to a home make it all worthwhile, though. Congratulations to them!
