Gotham stars Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie welcomed a baby girl together this week.
The 36-year-old actress and her boyfriend, McKenzie, whose Gotham characters are also expecting a baby on the show, released a baby announcement saying, “All are happy and healthy and appreciate the well-wishes.” They also revealed the name they chose for their real-life little girl, which is adorable, unique and still right on trend — Frances Laiz Setta Schenkkan.
Frances is a baby girl name of English origin that means “free.” This old-fashioned baby name is a unique choice and not on any current popular baby name lists. The Social Security Administration ranks it at 602 on its list of top baby girl names, with Emma being the top baby name of the year. Frances is an emerging trend of vintage or “granny” names that are becoming increasingly popular among celebrities, as Zooey Deschanel named her daughter Elsie and Carey Mulligan named her baby girl Evelyn. The couple didn’t pick the name to jump on the vintage baby name trend, however, as it has a family background.
It appears as if the couple named their daughter after McKenzie’s mother, whose middle name is Frances.
As far as the middle name goes, Setta was the last name of Baccarin’s mother, while Schenkkan is McKenzie’s actual last name (he goes by his first and middle names). As for the name Laiz, we aren’t sure yet what this pretty middle name could mean.

The Deadpool actress has yet to post a picture of baby Frances — and actually didn’t speak out much about her pregnancy at all — except posting this cute picture of her baby bump via Twitter in response to a fan asking if she was single. Her cheeky response? “Definitely.”
Although this is the first child for the couple, Baccarin has a 1-year-old son named Julius with her estranged husband, Austin Chick. She was planning to hammer out the details of their divorce in court, but she requested it be postponed because of her high-risk pregnancy, which required bed rest.
She hasn’t given any other details of her pregnancy condition, but she will be making her first post-baby appearance in a deposition in one month.
