Hilaria Baldwin poses pregnant in her underwear to make an important point

Hilaria Baldwin is pregnant with her third child in three years, and she has a message for her fellow pregnant women. Hilaria, who is married to actor Alec Baldwin, posted a gorgeous lingerie selfie to Instagram to remind women everywhere that pregnant bodies should be celebrated, not hidden away.

The photo features Hilaria’s baby bump in all its glory, and it comes with a clear message about the importance of a healthy body image during pregnancy.

Hilaria will probably take some heat for the revealing picture, but it’s tough to argue with the message behind her words. Pregnancy is a challenging time for many women, and maintaining a positive body image in a culture dominated by Photoshop can be one of the toughest parts of being pregnant. It’s hard to feel beautiful when your body seems to take on a life of its own, and it can be especially challenging to feel sexy when your body morphs into an entirely new shape, complete with stretch marks and morning (OK, all day!) sickness.

Hilaria is by no means the only pregnant woman struggling to accept her changing shape. The American Pregnancy Association emphasizes that many women struggle with maintaining a positive body image during pregnancy. The organization recommends that pregnant women learn more about what is happening inside their bodies as they try to come to terms with the outward manifestations of pregnancy. Exercise, regular self-care practices and developing a strong support system are three ways the APA suggests pregnant women can foster positive body images.

Kim Kardashian came under fire recently for her own post-baby naked selfie, but it’s hard to argue with women who feel empowered in every inch of their bodies. Even if we aren’t celebrities with picture-perfect figures, it’s still possible to love our bodies during pregnancy. Maintaining a positive body image has nothing to do with what you look like but is rooted in how you feel about yourself. Self-love can and does come in any size or shape.

Life doesn’t stop when we get pregnant or after we have our babies, and Hilaria’s and Kardashian’s sexy poses are great reminders that we don’t have to give up our sexiness before, during or after pregnancy.
