6. Anne Ross of Beyond Rain Man

Anne Ross is a psychologist whose book about life with a son diagnosed with Asperger’s, Beyond Rain Man, will hit shelves this month. Anne is fond of a phrase coined by Karen Kaplan: “Autism awareness equals autism awesomeness.”

7. Eileen Shaklee of Autism with a Side of Fries

Eileen, who authors the blog Autism with a Side of Fries, describes autism awareness as “give my kid a chance.”

“Please give him a chance to amaze you like he amazes me everyday. He creates his own benchmarks and hits his own created milestones in the way he knows he can do it. Progress and evolution starts the moment you allow a different way of thinking to happen. Be open to it.”
