As the mom of twins, I have spent many hours planning elementary-school parties. When my kids were young, I always enjoyed the challenge of coming up with crafts and favors that would not be too complicated or too expensive.
Our school as a no-food policy for school parties, which can make it a challenge to plan crafts and activities for some occasions, especially Halloween.
I must tell you that Halloween is one of my very favorite holidays. I love to sit on my porch, pass out candy and watch the parade of children come by in their creative and colorful costumes.
But as much as I love Halloween, I don’t really love the candy rush that comes with it. To be honest, the massive amount of sweets floating around the house after the big day stresses me out a bit. I love a good chocolate bar as much as anyone else, but I never know what to do with all of the candy that comes in, and it makes me feel wasteful just to throw it out.
My husband is a dentist. One of the first years he was out of school and in practice, we thought it would be a cute idea to pass out toothbrushes for Halloween instead of candy. It seemed like a great idea until one kid started hysterically crying when we gave him the toothbrush. After that, we went back to candy.
A few years ago, I got the idea to pass out vampire teeth at the school party (and at my husband’s office) for Halloween, and they turned out to be a big hit! To make them a bit more special, I attached a simple tag with twine and put them in a basket by the front desk at the office.
I’ve designed a new printable for the vampire teeth, and you can now download a copy yourself to make your own party favors!
To do them, simply print out the image with the teeth-brushing reminder (I recommend using luster photo paper for a good-quality print), cut out along the dashed lines, punch a small hole in the corner of the tag and tie to the vampire teeth.
That’s it — pretty easy, huh?
If you don’t want to tie the image to plastic vampire teeth, you can also print out the tags, tape them to small paper bags and fill them with stickers, pencils or holiday mini erasers.
