Why one couple is ‘announcing’ their infertility with hilarious photos

Whitney and Spencer Blake have two adorable young sons, but their journey to parenthood wasn’t a straightforward one. The Idaho couple, both 30, struggled with infertility for around a year before seeking medical intervention and were subsequently diagnosed with “unexplained infertility.”

Throughout three years of trying for a baby, both with and without medical assistance, humor was always one of the couple’s coping mechanisms, and this has inspired their series of “infertility announcements” — an alternative to the pregnancy announcements we’re all used to seeing in our emails and on our social media feeds. Cause for celebration, of course — but for many couples a difficult reminder that they’re not expecting a child.

“We were on a road trip and our conversation turned to infertility and how pregnancy announcements can sometimes be hard for people like us to read/hear, even when we’re legitimately happy for the people, ” Whitney told SheKnows. “We started thinking it would be funny to create our own infertility equivalents.”

And they are funny. The reaction to the images has been overwhelmingly positive and has also encouraged people going through similar struggles to reach out and share their infertility experiences.
