Why one couple is ‘announcing’ their infertility with hilarious photos

The Blakes put a disclaimer at the bottom of each image. “We know that anything about pregnancy and/or infertility can often be a sensitive subject for various reasons,” said Whitney. “We wanted to make sure people knew we were trying to be funny, not to hurt anyone’s feelings.”

Whitney said that despite longing for a baby of their own for so long, she and Spencer “pretty quickly felt a lot of peace with the decision to finally draw a curtain on fertility treatments” and focus on adoption. Eight months after they were approved to adopt, they were blessed with their first son, and two years after that adopted another little boy.

For other couples trying to cope with infertility right now, Whitney hopes she can offer some encouragement. “Though the road can seem lonely, you are not alone,” she said. “There are others who have felt the same pain you are experiencing. Just knowing and connecting with some of those people is what helped me the most during our toughest years with infertility. When Spencer and I were able to connect with ‘our people,’ we felt a lot less isolated and were better able to laugh off some of the crappiness of infertility.

“To anyone who is struggling with infertility — I’m so sorry. It’s a heart-wrenching, painful roller coaster ride you’re on and my heart truly goes out to you.”
