Why one couple is ‘announcing’ their infertility with hilarious photos

Now that the Blakes have children, how do they think their infertility journey has shaped their attitudes towards parenting?

“I think infertility has made me a more grateful parent,” said Whitney. “Not more grateful than other parents around me, just a more grateful Whitney than I might have otherwise been had I not waited so long, wanted so much, and worked so hard to become a mom.”

“On the flip side, I think infertility sometimes makes me put maybe extra pressure on myself as a parent,” reveals Whitney. “I think that I’m especially hard on myself because I KNOW how blessed I am to finally have kids. I think, ‘I waited a long time, dang it! So I am going to be good at this parenting thing! And I will never get frustrated (ha!).’ I like to think that I’ll never take any of it for granted because I KNOW how hard it was to wait for. But in spite of all that, like any parent, I get frustrated, distracted, or impatient.

“I am trying to learn to let go of some of that parenting guilt. No easy task for any parent, including the ones who haven’t struggled with infertility.”
