Comic books are full of awesome, powerful names, and they are decidedly not the domain of males only. Over the decades, there have been tons of strong female characters to grace the pages of our favorite comics, and they may just find their way to your baby name wish list.

To be sure, some of the most widely-known comic book characters were spawned many years ago, which is why many of the names here seem like they’re from the ’40s and ’50s — because their characters are from that time period. But there is no reason you cannot use one of these traditional baby names, like Barbara or Karen, for your brand-new baby girl. If it seems a little too dusty to use, stick it in the middle-name slot.
Other names here are a little more unique, like Amara or Harper. And naming your child after a character’s super-cool comic book name? Kevin Smith named his daughter Harley Quinn, and she seems to like it just fine. If you want to name your girl Storm or Rogue (or tack it on as a middle name), go for it.
Here are some of the coolest superhero and mega-villain names for girls out there, from our fave comic book franchises.
