We love it when celebrities get real. Like, really real — not PR-machine real. Perfect example: Catfish host Nev Schulman and his girlfriend, Laura Perlongo, who announced their pregnancy on social media this week with some incredibly expressive photographs and a soul-baring blog post.

The couple, who have been long-distance dating for seven months, may not have planned this baby, but just look at how happy they are in this picture:
Schulman captioned the snap with, “IT’S A GIRL! No words can capture the excitement and joy I feel about becoming a father. I am so in love with you @el_peego and thank you for giving me this incredible gift. You inspire and excite me every day.”
Perlongo, 30, who lives in Brooklyn and works in freelance advertising, also expressed her joy on Instagram, writing, “I ate a big sandwich and it has a heartbeat! Completely head over heels in love and excited to announce @nevschulman and I are bringing a new bb person into the world.”

The mom-to-be also wrote a highly entertaining blog post for “social impact company” attn:, in which she starts by setting the scene:
“It was a low-key Saturday night in February. I had taken a gummy with my boyfriend.” Right off the bat, we know this isn’t going to be your typical first-person celebrity pregnancy article.
And it got even more frank: “Well, I guess first I had condom-less, birth control-free sex where the white stuff got inside the vaginal pocket, but a couple weeks later I ate marijuana in the form of candy.
“Being a timing expert, halfway into a giggly game of cards, I went to the bathroom for my pre-menstrual pregnancy test ritual. Like most girls not on birth control, every month there is a day or two where I confuse normal PMS with ‘definitely pregnant.'”
Perlongo went on to share that “after the initial shock/weed wore off” she “knew right away” she wanted the baby, and Schulman was equally enthusiastic. But other people didn’t share their excitement and optimism.
“It seemed as though most of my open-minded, amazing, loving friends couldn’t believe what they were hearing,” wrote Perlongo. “It was as if I told them I had a terminal illness.”
Perlongo nails so many of the concerns people have about bringing kids into the world — and not just “lazy,” “self-absorbed” millennials (her words). Kids are expensive, and when you get one of your own, you kind of have to grow up in a way you can avoid when you’re not a parent, whatever age you are.
Ultimately, Schulman and Perlongo have decided to embrace this new development in their lives, while admitting they “certainly have no idea” what they’re doing. “We just know we’re doing something we want to be doing,” Perlongo writes. “Hopefully we don’t suck at it or turn into know-it-all zombies.” Which is all any parent can hope for, really.
