Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna’s baby news is old news by now, but it was only Sunday that we were given the privilege of seeing exactly how Kim, Kourtney and Khloé reacted to their little brother’s announcement.

The latest episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians showed Rob having a face-to-face conversation with his three older sisters to discuss his engagement to Blac Chyna while they were on a skiing holiday. It didn’t begin well, with Khloé telling the camera that she felt really uncomfortable and didn’t want to be left alone with Rob — and this was before he dropped his pregnancy bombshell.
While Kim and Kourtney appeared to be happy for Rob, Khloé was clearly upset. “I don’t know my emotions right now. I am empty… I am internally sad,” she said to the camera.

Khloé has faced a bit of backlash for her response to what most people would think of as the happiest of news. But let’s give her a break. It’s no secret that she’s struggled with infertility.
Rob and Chyna’s baby will be the sixth child born to one of Khloé’s siblings — it can’t be easy watching everyone else in the family have kids when it hasn’t happened for you.
It’s a difficult situation. Nobody should have to hide their pregnancy joy, but sometimes there has to be an element of walking on eggshells. Given Khloé’s past experiences, it might have been more considerate of Rob to give her the news off camera, before he broke it to the rest of the family.
While every situation (and sibling relationship) is different and comes with its own complications — whether you’re a Kardashian or not — bearing in mind a few things when telling a sister with a history of fertility problems that you’re having a baby can make the process easier for everyone involved. For starters, a heartfelt personal message before a big public announcement will soften the blow. Recognizing — and accepting, without question — the fact that it might be difficult news to hear is also important.

Hopefully one day Khloé will be the one sharing her pregnancy news with her siblings (and the world). In the meantime, let’s remember that just because her initial reaction to Rob and Chyna’s news wasn’t to jump for joy, it doesn’t mean she’s not happy for them or won’t be a good aunt — just like she has been to her other nieces and nephews.
