Mom is cucumber-cool as she delivers her own baby in less than a minute

We’ve heard some pretty amazing birth stories. Moms who deliver their own babies. Moms who give birth on a street, in a parking lot, on an airplane. Babies who arrive in less than a minute. But one mom ticks all of those boxes, which makes the footage of UK mom Jessica Stubbins delivering her own baby at the entrance of a hospital so mind-blowing.

Stubbins gives a whole new meaning to the idea of a quick delivery. Her daughter Lucy arrived so fast, in fact, that dad Tom missed the entire thing. He dropped Stubbins at the hospital entrance, went to park the car and came back to find his newborn daughter already in her mom’s arms.

CCTV footage from Scunthorpe General Hospital in England proves that baby Lucy was born in less than a minute. Not only that, she arrived before her mom had even set foot inside the hospital. After walking through the first set of hospital doors, Stubbins stopped to bend over before going through the second set. At this point, she reaches into her pants to catch her baby before scooping her up into her arms.

What’s so amazing about the footage is how calm Stubbins seems to be. Clearly, she knew her baby was coming whether she was ready for her or not.

It’s not clear at what stage of labor Stubbins was when she arrived at the hospital, but she had already been to the hospital earlier that day and was sent home because she had a “while” to go yet.

According to the Mayo Clinic, in most cases active labor (the second stage of labor, during which contractions become stronger and more frequent and water might break) lasts from four to eight hours — sometimes longer. The last part of active labor, often called transition, is when contractions become even more intense, painful and closer together. It’s during this stage that most women feel the urge to push and it can last for 15 to 60 minutes or longer. When it’s time for the baby to be delivered, there are no hard and fast rules. Some babies only take minutes to be pushed into the world, while others take a lot longer.

In little Lucy’s case, it looks like she didn’t need any help at all.
