Pregnancy changes a woman’s body in many ways. There’s that whole “pregnancy glow” thing, thicker hair, some definite gains in the cleavage area and, depending on the woman, some fluctuations on the scale. All of these things are a totally normal part of making a human, but apparently not everyone understands that. Fans are up in arms after expectant mom Blac Chyna shared a pregnancy weight update showing she’s actually lost a few pounds.

Blac Chyna, who will welcome a baby with Rob Kardashian later this year, shared a Snapchat video of herself climbing on the scale. Last week, the star revealed she weighed 183 pounds. In her latest post, the scale reads 176, meaning she’s lost about 6 pounds since her last update. Chyna attributes the change to clean eating and lots of walking, but fans haven’t been so quick to applaud her efforts. Instead, she’s faced concern-trolling about her weight loss and accusations that she’s not taking very good care of herself.
This isn’t the first time Blac Chyna has been under fire for her pregnancy weight changes. Back in June, she pissed off fans when she posted about her weight gain on Snapchat and joked that her goal was to gain 100 pounds by the time she delivered. She said she’d “tear it up” putting the weight on and then “snap it back” to her pre-pregnancy body with a mix of diet changes and lots of exercise after the baby came. Fans mostly just accused her of being lazy and irresponsible.

For some reason, we live in a society that loves to treat pregnant women like public property. We comment on their bodies, put our hands on their bellies without asking first and offer them mountains of unsolicited advice. It’s jarring and stressful to be a pregnant woman in our culture. People feel like they have the right to say whatever they want to you and about you, and they feel completely comfortable making strong judgments about your morals, values, health and character based on little more than a pregnancy photo you share on social media.
The truth is, every woman’s body responds differently to pregnancy. Some people gain weight, while others lose it or stay mostly the same. Some women get glowy, while others just look exhausted. Some people can eat a healthy and varied diet, and some women can’t stop vomiting long enough to eat a single Saltine. There’s more than one way to be a healthy pregnant lady, and mostly it comes down to each individual doing what works for them.

At the end of the day, the only people who truly know what’s going on with a pregnant woman’s body are her and her doctor. Everything else is just speculation and serves only to make expectant mamas more stressed out. Whether she gains weight or loses it, Blac Chyna knows more about her health and pregnancy than anyone else. Let’s all take a seat and trust women to be able to make their own decisions about what’s best for them and their babies.
