Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry has really angered some people with her latest decision. What did she do? She’s been enjoying an adults-only vacation with a girlfriend and isn’t ashamed to show just how much fun they’re having.

The fuss started when Lowry and her friend Sierra Barnwell posted pictures on their social media accounts of themselves making the most of their Hawaiian break.
But not everyone is happy to see pics of the 25-year-old mom of two learning to surf and swimming in the Pacific. Clearly, if her sons Isaac, 5, and Lincoln, 2, had been with her, there wouldn’t be an issue. It’s the fact that she dared to leave her boys back home that has folk so riled up.
“How does she deserve a vacation? She doesn’t work and has her kids part time,” one Twitter follower demanded, while another asked, “When you’re a parent, isn’t having your kids with you a must?”

Lowry was quick to fight back, pointing out that she is in school full time and has had her kids by herself for the last six months. She’s absolutely right. But it shouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference whether she’s in school or how much she works. Please, someone, direct us to the rule that says you cannot leave your child’s side from the minute they come into the world. But only so we can go ahead and rip it out of the book.
It’s not only unfair to criticize a mom for taking a vacation without her kids — it’s completely ridiculous. There are lots of benefits to having some time apart from your children, for mom and kids. It’s a chance for the mom to remember what it was like pre-kids, when life was just a little simpler and a whole lot more carefree. To relax and enjoy learning to surf, sipping cocktails with her friends, having a series of long naps, topping up her tan, exploring a new place… or whatever is going to help her unwind and go back to her children feeling great. For the kids, it’s a chance to spend an extended period of time with whoever is in charge: dad, a grandparent, an aunt or a family friend. They’ll miss mom, but they’ll learn that they can cope without her. Mom will miss them too, but that just makes being reunited with them all the better.
Lowry is also perfectly entitled to play the single parent card. She’s going through a nasty divorce from Javi Marroquin, and if there’s any mom that needs a break, it’s one that does the lion’s share of childcare with little or no help from the other parent.
