Evenflo recalls car seats because kids can get out of them

Car seat safety is a major area of concern for most parents, so it makes sense that many moms and dads are freaking out over the latest recall news. The popular baby and toddler brand Evenflo just announced a recall on booster seats amid reports of kids loosening their own car seat harnesses and putting themselves at risk.

The recall includes about 30,000 combination booster seats in the Evolve 3-in-1 line. Evenflo representatives decided to issue the recall after they received 27 complaints of children loosening their seat’s harness without a parent’s knowledge. No injuries have been reported, but anyone with kids knows how terrifying it is to think about a toddler loosening the car seat harness while in transit.

The recall includes seats manufactured in the U.S. with the model Nos. 34411700 and 34411741. A seat sold in Canada with the model No. 34411700C is also included. To carry out the recall, Evenflo plans to notify all registered owners of the affected seats and send out remedy kits with replacement harness adjustment buttons at no cost to customers. Once the new button is in place, kids shouldn’t be able to move it or unbuckle it easily on their own.

This particular recall has a simple fix, but it does point to the importance of always registering your baby gear. Things like car seats, high chairs, booster seats and toddler furniture get recalled fairly often for issues both large and small. Registering your products with the manufacturer is the fastest and most effective way to make sure you are knowledgeable about any news affecting products you own.

If you own an Evenflo seat and didn’t send in your registration card, you can still get one of the remedy kits sent to you free of charge. All you need to do is provide your seat’s model No. and date of manufacture to a representative at the company’s ParentLink Consumer Resource Center. They’re available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern at 800-233-5921.

As a parent, there are few things more frightening than a car seat malfunction. Even one report of a problem is a big deal, and it’s encouraging to see Evenflo taking this issue seriously and addressing it so quickly. Hopefully, these remedy kits make it easy for moms and dads to fix the problem and keep their little ones safe.
