If our kids are old enough to use the internet, read newspapers and listen to adult conversations, they’re old enough to know what’s going on in U.S. politics right now. And boy, is there stuff going on. Monday was the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and it gave us plenty to talk about.
But what we’re really interested in is how the younger generation reacted to it, which is why we asked the kids in the SheKnows #Hatch program to share their views on the debate. Because they are the ones who are most likely to benefit — or suffer — most from the decision the country makes on Nov. 8.

These kids are smarter and savvier than some might give them credit for. Ultimately they’re not buying any of Trump’s BS. “He’s just saying the same thing,” one kid observed, while another called out the Republican for “saying terrible things” and “interrupting” all the time.
Watch the video. Listen to these kids. They know what they’re talking about. And they deserve the last word: “Pay your taxes, dude.”
The young audience also saw through Trump’s insistence on bringing back law and order, with one kid calling it “just an excuse for racism.” And they don’t see a future with Trump as president as a bright one, because if he were in that position of power, “he wouldn’t try to eliminate the pay gap, and he views women as unequal to men.”
For these kids, there was no doubt that Clinton was winning the debate, and they praised the Democrat for not interrupting Trump, “even though she should have.”
