The actress and lifestyle blogger shared the happy news in her Happily Eva After newsletter, revealing the safe arrival of Major James Martino, who joins big sister Marlowe Mae, 2.
Only a few days earlier, Martino had posted a bump selfie on Instagram and asked her unborn child the question, “You gonna come out soon?”

Martino is, of course, the daughter of actress Susan Sarandon, who revealed earlier this year that her granddaughter Marlowe doesn’t call her a traditional name, such as “Gran,” “Granny” or “Grandma,” opting instead for the affectionate term “Honey.”
Of Latin origin, Major means “greater” or “a military rank.” It may not be a hugely popular baby boy name in its own right — it ranked at No. 360 in 2015 — but it is an example of a rising trend in baby naming: names that don’t actually seem to be names at all.
Famous Majors include American NFL football player Major Wright, Delfonics singer Major Harris and child actor Major Dodson, while notable pop-culture references are the movie Major Payne, the character on TV’s iZombie named Major Lilywhite, David Bowie’s hit song Major Tom and the character Major Major Major Major in the classic novel Catch-22.
Martino, who starred in this year’s movie release Mother’s Day alongside her real-life mom along with Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis, wrote openly about suffering a miscarriage in 2015. She also blogged throughout her second pregnancy, revealing that Major’s name was chosen — albeit not revealed — early on. “Kyle and I both love our little Boy’s name, and Marlowe loves it too!” she blogged last month. “She talks to him in the mornings in my belly and calls him by name all the time. Like Marlowe, Baby Boy’s name is a little unusual, but also feels classic. At least to us! Ha! “

The mom of two also admitted that while picking the right name can be “overwhelming” and “an insurmountable task,” the best advice she can give to other parents-to-be is to stick with their instincts — regardless of what other people think of their choice.
