Hattie is the first child for Bowles and his wife of three years Kylie Evans, and Hattie got praise from her dad for being a “punctual girl” and arriving on her due date of Oct. 21.

An English diminutive of Harriet meaning “estate ruler,” Hattie is now even more popular in the U.S. than its parent name. It ranked at No. 488 in the baby girl name chart in 2015, while Harriet hasn’t featured in the top 1,000 for over 40 years.

Still, Hattie has some way to go before it reaches its late 19th century ranking — it was in the top 50 from 1880 to 1900 alongside other “nickname” names like Lottie and Letty. It dropped out of the chart in 1969, but made a comeback in 2011 after Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott chose the name for their daughter.

Famous bearers of the name Hattie include actress Hattie McDaniel, who was the first black actor to receive an Academy Award in 1940 for her role in Gone With the Wind. Hattie was also the name of the protagonist in Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown and the name of characters in TV’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Ella Enchanted.

Bowles — who is also a children’s book author — has some time to enjoy his baby girl before heading back on tour with Zac Brown Band in Jan. 2017. Enjoy your new arrival, guys!
